STANDARD: Number Sense

LEVELS:  EE - E

Workout A (0 - 5)

PURPOSE: 1) Read number words, then write or say the number representations. 2) Recognize different fonts, or styles, used to create letters & numbers in the real world.

 

Only ten digits or symbols make up all numbers.
They are  0, 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, & 9.
  -- the words one hundred fourteen are
       represented as a number using
       three digits 1, 1, & 4  =  114

  -- the words one hundred forty are
       represented as a number using 
       three digits 1, 4, & 0  =  140
  -- the words seven hundred eighty-three
      
are represented as a number using
       three digits 7, 8, & 3  =  783
  -- the word nineteen uses two digits 
       1 & 9  =  19
  -- the word ninety-nine uses two digits
       9 & 9  =  99
  -- the word sixty uses two digits
       6 & 0  =  60
  -- the word five uses a single digit 5

 
All types of fonts are used in the real world.  Font is the creative, and even weird, way that letters & numbers can be formed. The general shape of digits & letters is the same.


DO NOT SAY "AND" !!


A common mistake is to use "and" when saying or reading whole numbers. "And" is only used to separate whole numbers "and" decimals.
